BFT on Netting Expansion

Finally. Finally something is being done correctly by the MLB. All 30 teams have decided to expand the netting to the end of the dugouts to protect fans, beginning this spring. You can't even imagine the number of morons that don't pay attention and are too focused on their phone to see a bat fly at them. In all seriousness, most people can't see a ball with 117 mph exit velocity coming straight at your head. For anyone that saw a Georgetown Basketball promotion against St. John's, though, the MLB should adopt something similar.

Cell phones would be banned in the sections just above the dugout to interact with fans and truly watch the game. In exchange, those tickets which generally start at $75, depending on the stadium, would be sold for $30. The fans who buy into the ticket package would be able to get a premium seat that is normally outside of the average fan's price range, and they would be able to enjoy the traditional way in which the game was played. That would be an outside-the-box idea to bring fans to the ballpark at a price that a family of four could afford. Then again, I am a baseball traditionalist. Most people can't do that, and that's okay. They'd have to pay the normal, outrageous, prices.

The expansion to the netting was a long time coming, though. 99.9% of all problems occur because of a lack of safety or teamwork. If you have Hunter Renfroe or Mike Trout hook one foul, you better watch out because a foul ball off your head from them could kill you. That is what the net expansion is about, protecting the fans from foul balls. Even though there was an increase in bats flying into the stands this year (shouldn't have had that popcorn), it is much more dangerous and common for a baseball to enter the stands. So, good for the MLB to finally do something right. If they add a pitch clock, I'll take back everything I've ever said positively about the MLB. Don't mess with the pace of play. Just keep doing things that are positive for the game.
